Cameras:
We have tested the LongOPod with cameras that weigh 2.5 lbs
Sony HDR-CX110/130B: ($400 to $500 range) This camera is an inexpensive camera that is a real work horse but lacks a couple key features. No wind cut on the microphone and no external Microphone input.
Canon VIXIA HF S20/200 ($700 to $1,000 range) This is our favorite small camera with great features the rival most professional cameras costing $5,000 +
Focal length control
External mic input
Wind Cut
Built in LANC Adapter
Cons: Monitor has to be opened
Uses more battery power
More effected by the wind
Wide Angle Lens:
A quality wide angle lens is essential to being able to capture all the action on the playing field or swimming pool. We recommend a High Quality Lens We use the RAYNOX DCR-6600 PRO 0.66x WIDE ANGLE in our Sports Video Business. You will need a step up ring which will allow you to screw the wide angle lens to the front of the camera.
Extended Battery:
We recommend purchasing an extended Battery some of the batteries allow your camera to run up to six hours. Be sure to purchase the manufactures battery. You can buy an aftermarket battery but most of them have issues with compatibility. I know a couple of manufactures have just come out with aftermarket batteries that are compatible. Currently the safe bet is to pay the extra cost for the manufactures extended battery.
Memory Flash Cards:
You will need a couple large memory cards if you do not have a hard drive or tape camera. (16 to 32 Megs) they will also need a class speed rating of at least 4. Sony uses the Pro Duo memory card but their latest cameras use SD memory cards. Canon uses the SD memory cards.
LANC Adapters:
Our control handle uses LANC to control the camera; we have experimented with the IR remote control that comes with your camera but they cannot compare to the LANC control. You can use a camera that has LANC or a LANC adapter with the LongOPod controller
